Sep. 10th, 2012 05:11 pmMy net connection seems to be working for more than a couple of minutes at a time today--at least at the moment--so...
Such friends as have wondered what happened to me may take heart: repair is in hand, though the source of the problem remains a mystery. The gods of technology willing, the problem will be fixed in the next few days.
In more good news, the dentist has been taken care of, & the car repairs are in hand. I'm also happy to say, that both Isaac & Samuel are being very good about helping Mom & me out with things we need to do lately. I've been drafting Samuel into helping me clean acorns off the driveway & sidewalk on weekends; he gets tired of it & fussy really fast, but I make him stick to it. Was only thinking that the job would get done & I could get off my feet quicker with his help, but it also provides a good opportunity to talk to him about practical things like public sanitation & health issues--he didn't understand why we don't just sweep acorns, etc. into the street, & I explained to him about drains backing up & disease-bearing vermin being attracted by decaying waste. Some lessons plant biology too; I was explaining about plants being dormant during the winter yesterday. I think I should look around for more chores he can help me with, it just recently hit me that I have longer, more factual, practical conversations with Samuel while we're working on some chore together than when watching DVDs or he's showing me his videogames...& talking to him about public sanitation is certainly less boring to me than listening to him talk about Minecraft or whatever.
On the floral front, I think the Mexican & domestic petunias are finished for the year, I haven't seen any for the last week. The crepe myrtle are well into going to seed, the florets of such stalks as I to bring inside either fall off while I attempt to arrange them & I wind up with scraggly twigs & seed-heads, or else fall off within a couple of hours of putting them on my bureau. Still have some esperanza & plenty of lantana, but the esperanza doesn't last worth a damn at any time (though the leaves are pretty & last quite a long time), & the lantana is also very much gone to seed, & though the florets last longer a bit longer than the crepe myrtle. Mom's roses are putting out lots of blooms again now that temperatures have gotten slightly cooler, but the sun is still literally cooking them on the bush if I don't bring them inside while the buds are still tightly furled. Once inside, though, they do open very nicely & last 2-3 days longer than they have been. Even so, I've definitely decided that when the time comes for the Texas Chainsaw Plant Massacre comes, the rosebushes are first on the list.
Could rant about politics while my connection's working, but the people who know me probably (should, anyway) know both my thoughts & feelings on any given issue. Suffice it to say, whether it really matters or not, I'll be at the polls come November if I have to literally crawl on hands & knees. (What was it Khan Noonian Singh said while his ship was coming apart? "...from the depths of Hell, I spit at thee"?)
